Edge Lighting with Sara (NSFW)

Sara a trainer at Topp Performance, in Port Elgin came down to shoot with me last week. I’ve shot fitness and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before with Sara. Sara is a great place with her physique right now, powerful, muscular and nice and full. We decided to do some edge light photos during our session and they turned out really good.

- The Athletic Implied Nudes series is an exploration of the human body under muscle stress— understanding the body’s strength, flexibility, and power. Clean backgrounds, hard lighting, and black & white photography work together to eliminate distractions and highlight the muscle groups and figure of my subjects.

Beginning with Mixed Martial Artists and Boxers, I have developed my technique to capture rapidly firing muscle groups at high speed in front of the lens. The resulting instinct for timing fight photography has lead to an ability to freeze my subjects at the peak of their motion. Discovering a better understanding of the human form with this project has transitioned into my commercial fitness work, maximizing composition and positioning to best showcase the human form.

Athletic Nudes (Baseball) with Todd (NSFW)

In winding down my project I got lots of people volunteering for it this summer. Todd reached out and I found out he had been playing baseball for a very long time, so we arranged the shoot around a baseball theme. Todd is also a competative bodybuilder, so I knew he’d be in good shape for the shoot. Todd brought along his bats from the Stevensville Bat Company, out of Niagara, great looking bats.

Athletic Nudes with Mindy

This was my third time working with Mindy on this project. We tried to get some different poses as we have worked together a couple times before, though I couldn’t resist my standard back shot. We shot a couple of days before her CPA Show in Guelph. A show in which she took Overall Women’s Figure. Mindy is always great to work with and is trained by Jodi Boam.

Showing size and vascularity in her arm.

Rear double bicep is a great way to show off the whole back.

Strong, muscular and feminine.

- Tidal Transformation: I’ve been working with people and helping them to live their true potential my entire life. With over 25 years’ experience leading groups and teams, sometimes in some of the most remote and stunningly rugged environments, today I am more passionate than ever in helping people tap into their personal power, their true potential and the inner peace that flows from finding that from within.

I've not only physically led groups on expeditions but I've also helped facilitate internal change and transformation for many of my former students. and clients. I’m driven by my passions and a desire to help others while doing what I love. I work with, and spend my time with, people and brands that I enjoy and respect. Laughter holds great value in my world. I'm fueled by a good challenge and love. I love making connections with amazing people (like you) every day.

Athletic Nudes with Simon

I had the chance to work with former fighter and current model Simon Marini a couple of weeks ago. He was a cool guy and had lots of stories to tell during the shoot. He has a great athletic frame and hit the poses really well.

Naked Jiu Jitsu (NSFW)

Rachel came back for more athletic nudes and brought a friend this time, martial artist Nelson Sobral. Nelson is not only a martial artist but he’s also a really good musician. (Give him a listen) We had some fun playing around with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and trying to keep it implied. I think we all laughed until we hurt that night.

Thanks to my Fanshawe student Majid for assisting that night.

Fitness Day at Magnum Total Fitness

Melissa invited me to come to her gym, Magnum Total Fitness, to photograph the end of their 12 week boot camp. Magnum Total Fitness is in Kincardine, a great little town on Lake Huron. I also got to re-connect with one of my former work placement students, Justin, who assisted me that day. Setup time was 7 AM and the participants for the day were already starting hair and makeup. We got setup and were shooting just after 8 AM. We photographed in the gym and in the makeshift studio we setup all day. We wrapped up photographing just before 6 and were cleaned up and out by 7.

During the day I got to photograph a lot of genres. Fitness obviously, maternity, family images, group pictures and even a motorcycle. It challenging but a lot of fun. I met a lot of really terrific people on all different points on their fitness journey, it was nice to interact with them all. We shot about 1500 pictures on the day between all of the participants and the groups.

The pictures below are not retouched, the theme of the shoot was body positivity and we wanted to portray people as they are.

Body positive was the theme of the shoot.
