Some Practice with the New Camera

One of the things that I need to do with a new camera, especially one that is so different from the ones I’ve owned before, is to get a lot of practice in. I like to be able to change settings without looking at the buttons and to operate it by touch and muscle memory. I’ve been practicing with a bunch of different genres and situations since I got the camera last month. I went to a workshop put on by The Production Studio so I could practice without worrying about producing any usable images. The model for the workshop was the very experienced and talented Phylactère. I did get a number of images I’m really happy with.

- Mark Ruddick Photography - My images are an exploration of the human body under muscle stress — understanding the body’s strength, flexibility, and power. Creating these images has given me a better understanding of the human form which has transitioned into my commercial fitness work.

I am a London, Ontario photographer who specializes in fitness, bodybuilding and fight photography.

I love to tell stories as anyone who's worked with me can attest. That includes visual stories through photographs. Let me tell your story and provide high impact images of you to sponsors, agencies, family or just for yourself.

Teaser Image from Shoot with Scarlett Edwards

I had a great shoot last night with Scarlett Edwards, a talented model. I was trying out some single light techniques to improve my lighting skills. For the image below I used a single strobe on a boom directly over the model. The light had a gridded reflector and barndoors to shape the light. We tried a lot of different poses. The idea was to illuminate the shoulders and upper buttocks while keeping the back in shadow. Initially all of the images were to be shot in black and white, but when I saw how her red hair popped off the black background, I had to go with colour.

I'll eventually post more from the set, but they will not be SFW or Facebook friendly.
